About Islay
Islay is a small island of the west cost of Scotland. To get to Islay you can take a plane or a ferry. The main industries are fishing, farming and whisky.
There are 4 schools on Islay; they are Bowmore, Port Ellen, Keills and Port Charlotte. Port Ellen and Port Askaig are the main fishing ports and where the ferry comes in.
Things to do on Islay
The RSPB have 2 reserves on Islay at Gruinart and the Oa. The Islay museum is in Port Charlotte, as well as the wildlife centre. Every Wedensday there is a ferry that goes to Colonsay and a ferry goes to Jura every day. The distillery can do tours and at the woollen mill you can buy woollen clothing. You can learn about Islay's past at Finlaggan.

Port Ellen
Port Ellen is a beautiful village found on the
island
of
Islay
. It is a fishing village where lots of fishermen come in with boats full of clams, crabs, lobsters and shrimps.
Port Ellen is built around
Leodamas
Bay
, in
Islay’s main deep water harbour. It is also
Islay’s second biggest village, being just smaller than Bowmore.
All together
Islay
has eight distilleries. Port Ellen’s main three are Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg.
Things I really enjoy about living in Port Ellen are-
There are loads of beaches,
You can go out fishing,
And it’s just a wonderful place to be!!!
